What Does Empathy Means To Me.

Hi my name is Muamua Leuila and I am a year 7 student at Pt-England School , I have a lovely teacher and her name is Miss Clark . I have worked all night and all day to figure out what Empathy means to me. What Does Empathy Mean To You ? , This is what empathy means to me . Empathy is a great opportunity by helping and sharing with and to others . By showing empathy you need to take charge and to also be respectful to others and yourself . Empathy is a way to help you in your learning in class time and it is also most important to show it every where you go and where you stand every second , Hour , and also Minuets . When I get older I hope I will be respectful to others by sharing and helping and to also have faith in other people's hearts and soul by respecting other people. (And that is what Empathy means to me. )

Empathy means looking after others if they are felling down or sad . To show empathy you do not do it you show it because when my fiend was crying I said to her "Hey are you OK " and my friend replied"yes" and she showed me the bully that made her cry and I yelled "Hey can you please say sorry to her please because you have hurted her feelings and now she is crying" and the bully said "Well OK then I am sorry for hurting your feelings and I promise I will not do it again" and my friend agreed with the bully and they where friends again and then the bully never bullied anyone else because he knows that he will get into big trouble. ( And that is another way what empathy means to me. )



Here Are A List Of Things About What Other Words Does Empathy Mean.

Sharing : Sharing is when you see someone hungry and they do not have any lunch then you could say to them "Hey are you hungry" and if the person reply's back and says "Yes" then you could give your food that you do not want to eat to give to the person that is hungry. (And that is what Sharing means to me.)

Helping : Helping is when you see your partner next to you struggling in their work and you could maybe say "Hey do you need help" and if the person that is stuck on their work reply's "Yes" then you could give information about the straggly that they  stuck on. (And that is what helping means to me.)

Encourage : Encourage is when you give hope or confidence to the team was Encourage by the shouts and applause. (And that is what encourage means to me.)

Faith : Faith is when you see someone's hearts broken like they feel lonely and sad that they had a friendship break up you could maybe be their friend until their beasties changes their mind that they want to be beasties back together like help them and care for them and then that child will know how much you know about their heart that they want to be beasties and they will know that they now have faith and their soul are together forever in school times for beasties. (And that is what faith means to me.)

Caring : Caring is when you care for someone like you beasties when they are felling sad and also lonely then you could maybe care and play with them util it is home time and say good things like "Hi beasties how are you" or maybe "Hey are you hungry you can have some of my lunch" like those kinds of nice words to treat others but mostly your beasties. (And that is what caring means to me.)

Support : Support is when you go out there and play games to support your school and win most of the medals and things like that and support your family and friends . To support your family you need to support them if they are having a fight and tell them of so they do not get into any trouble. (And that is what support means to me.)

Love : Love is when you love someone so much like your sister or your mum then you could take them out for dinner or even somewhere like a restaurant or maybe rainbow's end. Then you could tell them how much you love or like them and you can maybe give them a present like some new shoes , Laptop , Phone , or even a flat screen T.V. (And that is love means to me.)

Respect : Respect is when you can respect others and mostly new visitors and teachers . Respecting visitors is the most coolest thing ever because when they ask you what you have been doing in the past few weeks and if you tell them you where focusing on your reading then they might say 'Really that is cool maybe your school is the best school ever" and maybe you can respect teachers by never getting told of and they might give you a award.

Protection :  Protection is when you need to keep every stranger away from them but if it is your family and friend then It will be OK. To protect your friends you should stay with them the whole time if they love to have fight so if they get into a fight you can protect them by keeping them away from the person they hate. (And that is what protection means to me.)


Partnership : Partnership is like when 2 people owns a business like 2 brothers and they work as a partner by help and sharing a tool if there is only 1 tool. (And that is what partnership means to me.)

Math Strategy.

Here is what I have created on a presentation and my question was There was 48 soccer balls on display. And 3 containers so how many soccer balls where in each container? so I hope you enjoy reading my maths strategy and thank you for commenting on my blog>!!!

Empathy.

Intro:  Empathy is an acceptable way of respecting others and new visitors. Empathy makes me do the right thing by asking  the person that is feeling down if they are ok and all right. If they have no one to play with, then you play with them to make them feel welcome in our school.

Para 1:  To show empathy you need  to feel  people’s feelings are like in their life and world. Empathy is when you are caring for one another and also sharing for one another , to help and care for what they have done wrong to you and your friends. To also ask them about how they feel and make them not to feel sad or afraid of anything they do or what they say.

Para 2:  It is important to show empathy so that the young ones can also  show empathy to the rest of their friends in class time. By the time it gets to your fuel break and when little ones play on the playground you watch out for them just in case they might get hurt by the big ones.

Para 3: People , student’s and also teachers show empathy by leading and helping your classmates in class , and also play time. Older children and adults are a leader of what they participate in whatever you have registered  for.

Reading Activity 2.

Summarise what has happened in the story so far.While Ellie was sleeping on her bed dreaming her bed and the house was shaking so hard that it would be stronger than a car crashing in to other people’s cars. Ellie thought she was dreaming and then when she opened her bright eyes and started getting scared and then she did not know what she could do so then she crawled down and across the room and just remembered that her teacher and the student’s where talking about earthquake and she just remembered the drill at school that the teacher said it would be a bad Idea if you would stand or hide underneath a door or even the hallway. Ellie was terrified and scared of the earthquake and Ellie’s father just came up stairs to check on her and her father said “The power is out” and Ellie still just stayed still on the doorway. Ellie’s father shone the torch on her so she can see light and her father said “Come on lets go downstairs and find that old radio” and she finally standed up and walked downstairs with her father.

The city where Ellie and her parents lived got advised to boil all drinking water for at least three minutes. Ellie’s mum said to save some water. Ellie and her mum went to the shop to get some supplies and they were just on time to at the dairy . Ellie and her mum saw a lot of people stuffing food in their trolley and even the shelves was almost empty . So then they got what they needed Elie was happy go home. Back at home Ellie’s dad began checking the house for damage. Several big windows were cracked. There were cracks in the ceiling and in the walls , and there was a huge crack down in the middle of the chimney. Ellie’s dad said “I’ll have to take it down,” . and he went to go and find the ladder. When Ellie and her mum was on there way home they saw the shops and they were even damage badly and broken in pieces.

Ellie is crouched down very low with her arms over her head. How might this help? What is she waiting for?It would protect her face and also her whole body and that is why she has covered herself.

• Why did Ellie think “at least”? What is she referring to? Have a look back in the text and see if you can find what this refers to. Ellie is waiting for the earthquake to stop.

Why were people buying water? Because they needed water to drink if they walk any further.

• What about the batteries and the bread? Why were they selling out? Share your ideas with a partner.They needed batteries for their torches and radio to know what was going on outside the whole world. They need bread because they needed food to help them survive.

Why do you think the author has mentioned this? What does she want us to know?She want’s us to know what to do when an earthquake happens where you live.

• What have you found out about what it is like for this family? Which parts of the text have helped you to do this?I have found that it is hard if you have an earthquake in your city or even where you even live or your country but most of all your country.

What you think the author’s purpose was for writing this story?I think that the author purpose was to let the reader know what to do when ever an earthquake happens wherever you live like your country so you can be safe whenever and wherever you live.

What parts of the text helped you to come to this understanding?Because I know how it feels when your house gets demolished down and you will need to live somewhere like the hotel. And to also become a person to help other people that their country can be safe but getting help from other people.

Reading Activity.

Looking at the title of the text and the image on the first page, what do you think the story is about?I think it is about the  earthquake happening in the middle of the darkness , and the little girl was afraid that the house might collapse on her.

Why did Ellie think she was dreaming?Because when she was sleeping she felt her bed shaking and also the house was shaking so she thought that she was dreaming.

What does violently mean? Put this word into a sentence.?Violently means when the house gets busted down hard that the house might fall on them , and the house was shaking hard and sounds like a car crashing in to another car.

What are five things you should do in the emergency of an earthquake?Getting away from glass things , hiding underneath the table , or bending down in a safe place for yourself and your family , trying to make your family safe , not to stand indoors.

Why did Ellie crouch down?Because she was afraid that the bed might fall on her and she was trying to stand away from glass things and also heavy things in her bedroom.

Why would you want to be away from windows and mirrors during an earthquake? Because it is not safe because the way it cracks and when you walk past the cracked windows you should stab yourself or your toes and the mirrors might fall on her.

Name a city in New Zealand that has had an earthquake within the past five years. What happened?

Christchurch.  

in 2011 there was a earthquake in Christchurch and heaps of people were missing and heaps of people were dead.

How are earthquakes measured?

Earthquakes are usually caused when the rock underground suddenly breaks along  fault so ha is how the ground shakes. When 2 plates rubbing against each other. The rocks are still pushing against each other but not moving.

Why were people in the city of Christchurch advised to drink boiled water only?So they can kill the germs so like when the building falls it can stop the dust by making you sick.

Why do you think mum started filling pots with water? Is  this a sensible idea why/whynot?Yes because mum was filling the water in the pots so when you are walking far from the mountain and if you are thirsty you can drink the water in the pots.

What parts of the house were damaged?The windows were cracked , the chimney had a big hole in the middle , and cracks on the ceilings.

Why would Ellie’s father want to take the chimney down?A Because the chimney had a crack in the down middle so if it would fall down it would badly injured a person because it is made out of brick.

Why were they lucky to have gone to the shops early?Because the shelves was almost empty because people was throwing supplies in their trolley.

Here is what I have created on the presentation and it is called Dividing partitioning. My Division Strategy.

Here is what I have created on the presentation and this is my division and I was thinking that I would be hard to do , But when I have tried it it was really simple and I hope you enjoy reading my division work.

Last Lines.

Looking at the images and title of the text, what do you think the story is about? I think that someone might get sent to hospital,or someone having to read a poem their favourite poem.

Look at the layout of the text and the different fonts the author has used, why do you think he has done this? To try and tell the reader that it is going to be a sad story and to let the reader feel sad and to feel sorry about the person in the text of the book.

Why was the little boys father not supposed to do any strenuous work? Because something sad might happen like he might faint or have a heart attack because he has a heart problem.

Why was he embarrassed of his father at times? He is embarrassed because his father is old and he reads poems when the son’s friends come by and say hi.

Why would the little boy try avoid his father when he has friends around? Because his friends might laugh when his friends hear his father singing a poem about a war.

How do you think his father would have felt? Do you think his dad knew he was avoiding him? Why/why not? He would of felt happy singing a poem about a war , and I think that his father did not know about his son avoiding him.

What words kept coming into the boys head as he was in the waiting room at the hospital? For the angel of death spread his wings on the blast, and breathed in the face of the foe as he passed.

Analyse these lines, what do they mean to you? I think it is about the father because the angels come and support about the fathers heart problem and the death spreads his wings on the blast , and that means when his father dies the death’s wings spread on the past , And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed and that means that as his father breaths in the face of the angels we would have faith as he past the way.

Why was mum’s voice “choked up”? Mum’s voice was choked up because she was afraid that her husband might past the way and she might need to raise 1 child all by herself on her own.

Why do you think the little boy did not want to see his father? Refer to the image also.

Looking at the colours the illustrator has used in the text, what type of mood does it create? Why does it create this mood? The author done the colour of the text because he can let the reader know that it will be a sad story.

Read up tp page 25 and predict what you think the nurse wanted to talk to mum about? I think that the nurse wanted to tell mum that her partner was going to die and past the way and she also told her that he blood pressure was too high.

Why couldn’t the little boy sit with his father and talk to him? Because he was afraid that he might tell him something and he was also scared that he would die , but I think that it was a great Idea to talk to him so that would be the last word to say to him before he would die.

If you were in the little boys shoes how would you feel? (Think about being empathetic)

I will be sad and awful about my father dying in the hospital and I will sorry about the boys father.

WALT: Divide Partitioning.

Here Is what I have created on the presentation in my Division I thought it would be so hard but later when I have tried it , it was pretty simple.

The Pt-England Way.

        Pt  England  Rules, The  Pt  England  Way.

The Pt-England Way is a way of life that Mr Burt and the prefects created, for the Pt England School students and teachers. It is a way of life that Pt Englander’s all know and follow and is how Mr Burt concludes assembly every Fridays.  Mr Burt starts of with the Karakia and while that finishes he starts talking about the Pt-England way and rules.

One of the Pt-England rules are the 3 p’s protection , participation  and also partnership. Those 3 p’s help us to behave when new students arrive in our school and also new visitors that come all around our school and check and see what we have been learning about for the past few years and days.

Mr Burt also discusses respect and the prefects have just created the respect word into something that is suitable and it was RESPECT-remember eyes and ears, speed, posture, everyone co-operating together we have done that for our Korero in the Pt-England way of respect.

Learning at school is an acceptable way to help Pt England learn and also to strive and the word Tiaki Taonga is the fantastic word that the Pt-England Student’s will be learning about the whole year and that means our school,our people,our efforts,and our success.

The Pt-England way is to take care of everything we know and to look after the school property. Our people mean we need to take care of other’s that we know and to also help them achieve and learn how to Respect.

Our efforts means that you need to have power in yourself have faith in yourself and not to struggle or stress in what you do like your work in class time and to just enjoy life. The word success means to work hard and to succeed and reach your goals in your work, and your homework.

Empathy.

Empathy is important so you can show others about your feeling’s and to also recognize other people’s feelings.What does it mean to “put yourself in someone else’s shoes?” Put yourself in their shoes means caring for other people and helping them if they need a hand.What does that have to do with empathy? That includes because empathy is showing the way of life and helping everyone.
What can you do to show empathy toward another person?Help them and conclude them as your family or share and love them and to also care about them.
Make a popplet or Google drawing a displaying ways that you can reach out to others.
Think of a time when you hurt someone’s feelings. Describe what happened. I have hurted my friends feelings when she showed me a picture of her dog and then I teased it.

Do you think it would be a big change or a small change? YesWhy do you think so? So we do not have any more detention in class-time.

How did you know you hurt the person’s feelings? Because she was telling the teacher and also bursting in tears.

How did you feel about the situation? Pretty sad and horrible and I will fell awful.

What did you do to make the situation better? By replying and saying sorry and I also said "I am sorry and I hope you will forgive me in what I have done wrong" and she replied "Yes I be leave you and you will always be my Best Friend.

Discuss how you think your school would change if all of the students showed Empathy to each other?Our principle and teachers will be impressed in us and they will tell the Pt-Englanders that we have improved the rest of the adults.

Looking at the title of the story and image on the first page, what do you think the story might be about? A ball going far over the fence and over the fence was a big giant bull.

Share experiences about being really scared. How did you feel? How did your body react to being

really frightened? I felt really nervous running past a big dog and it was my neighbor's dog and this happened last year.

A HELPING HAND - what clues are there in this title?

Brainstorm possible characters and story problems.

A softball ball, A enormous bull,Paddock,Michelle,Karl,Sarah,Mum,Kevin.

What were Karl and Sarah looking at? Why do you think they were looking at this so closely?

Karl and Sarah was standing by the fence looking at the biggest bull.

What does the writer mean when it says “when she connected with the ball”?

It means that the person that was connecting with the ball it means that she is really good at playing softball.

What language feature is “CRACK? See if you can find any more in the story?

The language CRACK! is when Sarah hitted  the ball and it made a sound of CRACK!!

What did Michelle have to get? How do you think she was feeling about having to get this? How would you feel?

Michelle had to go and get the ball that is in the Paddock with the ball. Michelle was feeling so terrified ,nervous and also scared.

There is plenty of conversation in the story - how do we know this?

Because there was a lot of speech marks in the story and that means there was a lot of speaking.

What does the word ‘uncertain’ mean? Find the definition and put the word into a sentence of your own.

Example Certain means you are 100% sure  but uncertain means you are not sure of anything.

Predict what you think will happen next in the story, what is your reasoning for this?

When Michelle gets the ball in the paddock she grabs the ball and the bull chases her and she dies.

Michelle’s heart was banging so hard against her ribs because she thought it would burst right through.

The time of my life I was scared was when this strange was chasing after me while I was going for a walk. Up the Mountain.

I was afraid I might get bitten by that strange dog.

What does Michelle mean when she says “snail pace would be safest”?

So the snail pace can make her safe so the bull will not eat her.

The terms - “fear began to ooze out of my skin” What does the writer mean by this? The writer means the smell of the hung in the air.

As I ran across the road a big tank was riding and It felt like it was going a earthquake.
