Summarize the main points in our own words.

In Antarctica Whales are Mammals not fish,That live in the sea.Whales are found in Ocean all over the world. Whales are the largest living animals.

Whales have groups called Pods. Male Whales are called Bull,Female Whales are called Cow, and the young one is called a Calf.

Some Whales have Enormous mouth and long Jor bones.Whales have a thick layer amount of fat, called blubber that is under their skin,To keep them warm from the freezing cold in Antarctica.

In Antarctica there are 2 sorts of whales and they are called Non Toothed, and even Baleen. Orca Whales have white sharp teeth to keep the Predators away.

This Is When I Was Little.

This term as part of our topic we are learning to pratctise and say our mihi in both English and Maori. The children didn't have to write out their mihi, they all used cue cards. They did exceptionally well. They will share with you their name, age, birthday, parents and siblings. Listen as this is Mua's first post for the year.

Antarctica Penguins.

          Summarise the main points of the text, in my own words.

In Arctic there are no penguins in the North of the world. Antarctica Penguins are all over around the southern Ocean.

In Antarctica Penguins cannot fly but they take small  wobbling steps  on Ice.Antarctica Penguins stand Upright on their short legs.

In the Antarctica were the Penguins are the Temperature drops well below freezing and the sun does not raise. In Antarctica there are Icy gales that blow most of the times and it gets colder and colder.

In Antarctica a few penguins can survive by living on the Ice pack but some of them do not survive. Male Emperor Penguins stand on the pack Ice for the whole winter.

Emperor  Penguins have a thick layer of fat . It  helps  make  the cold go away and the  how many blubber they have would keep them warm from freezing pack Ice.

Emperor Penguins have fluffy soft feathers that grow close to their skin.The top feathers overlap and this makes a waterproof  coat .

Antarctic Seals

  WALT- We are learning to summarise the main points of a  paragraph.

Seals are mammals that  live in oceans all over the world. All of the seals at Antarctica are non-eared seals.These seals have lots of blubber to keep them warm.

Seals have thick,short hair on their streamlined body,to keep them warm.They have flippers to help them be superb swimmers.Most of the time seals are in the sea.

All seals around the Antarctic ocean are fast and graceful. But some seals pull them self up to rest or to give birth to their pups in the Ice. Most of the time seals are clumsy and slow.

At  Antarctica most common seals eat Krill instead of krabs. In Antarctic there are 30 million crabeater seals.  Antarctic  seals live under Ice or maybe on Ice. Crabeater seals get eaten by Leopard seals because they are predators.

In Antarctica Leopard seals hunt penguins underwater but the penguins are afraid of them. Leopard seals can not move fast on land.

Weddell seals only spend the whole winter in Antarctica . They stay there freezing over and other seals  go to warmer parts of the southern ocean.

I learnt that in the Antarctica Ocean it gets warmer and warmer the deeper you go.O also found out that on the bottom of the   Antarctica Ocean there is coral living and growing there.
