Matariki - 7 Stars.

hat is Matariki in a physical sense?Matariki is the 7 stars that appears when it comes to celebrate Maori New years , and the 7 stars are 7 sisters for the Maori way.

What is the special sight you may witness towards the end of May?The 7 stars of Matariki sink below the horizon and disappear from New-Zealand’s night sky-but not for long.

What are people looking out for to know that the new year is beginning?Seeing the Matariki at dawn and the new moon at night , because it is an important festival in our national calendar

Tell me three things you know about Matariki? The Matariki has 7 stars which is 7 sisters , The 7 stars appear when it is Maori New Years , When you have seen Matariki at dawn and new moon at night , you’ll know that the Maori New Year is beginning.

Maori used to ‘preserve birds hinu’. What does the word ‘preserved’ mean?It means something is original or existing state , and it also means that in a english way hinu means fat.

Can you give me an example of how people often preserve various items to date? If you keep a close eye on the sky in june , you might be lucky enough to witness a special sight.

Matariki is the time for what? (refer to the text) Matariki was a time for looking ahead and planning your spring planting .

Tell me about a Matariki legend? A Matariki is a great pleasure to help people know when it is the Maori New Years day and when the Matariki raises it  glows like diamonds and there are hundreds of stars that are different sizes.
