The Pig Hunt.

Summarise what had happened in the text so far: There was a father named Glenn and his family were on there way to the pig hunting . When they have got there Glenn son was excited because when he let the dogs loose Tahi , Chuck , Rocky , where even happier . The dogs ran everywhere leading the humans to the pigs . The family was following the dogs but all of sudden the dogs ran away the humans did not know where the doges were , and the the father of the family was thinking that the dogs had found a pig but then his wife said that the dogs did not find a pig because they are not barking because when-ever the dogs find a pig they bark until one of us find them. While the family was on there way to find the dogs Glenn told his son Tremaine to go and use the aerial and the radio to try and track the dogs down and Tremaine was moving the aerial and the radio around in circles and finally heard the sound and it went around him and it was sound waves. So on they have found the dogs and all together with the dogs they found the pigs.

Why does Tremaine move the aerial around? Tremaine had to move the aerial around so that when the aerial makes noises around than that means that the aerial had tracked the dogs down because the dog was wearing the collar that had a tracker on it.

Why are the animals key to the pig hunting process?
Because when Tremaine had let the dogs free in the first place the dogs was excited to go because they were hungry to eat the pigs and the family was also happy to go hunting for the pigs so that when they have found a pig , when they get home they can cook it and starting eating the pig while it is cooked.

Why do the family hunt pigs?
The family hunt for pigs because when the whole family have found a pig they can cook it and eat it.

Research how the tracker works (the tracker put on the dog)
How does the tracker work? The tracker works by the radio and the aerial because the radio and the aerial is together with the tracker and when the dog runs away and you get the the radio and the aerial and move it around and around and then the sound vibrates around and the sound waves moves further further.

How do the radio and aerial work together in conjunction to help the pig hunt?

The radio and the aerial helps to family to track the dogs when the dogs have found a pig and they aerial and the radio helps the family to track the dogs down if they are lost.

Echolocation Explanation.

Explanation template:
This term my class and I are studying about animals that use Echolocation ,  our topic this term is all about Sound and also echolocation. Here are some animals that use echolocation. Bats , Rats , Dolphins , Whales , such as whales. Echolocation means the location of objects by reflected sound like sound waves.

You may think that bats are blind but they are not instead of using their own eyes they listen and hear if there are any sound and they follow the sound, the sound leads them to where they want to go. The thing that happens when an animal makes noises is when they yell the sound vibrates and travels around, and if there is a wall the sound bounces on the wall and vibrates like sound waves and comes back to you. The bats hunt by using their ears to listen for any sound. Animals communicate by using echolocation and maybe just listening to each other for what they are doing lately.

The echo bounces out a signal when you yell or scream, and listening to the echoes and hearing if the signal bounces back.  If the signal does not return than the cave is almost at the end and there is no wall between the cave. If bats and the other animals that use echolocation did not have any echolocation I think that they  would not exists and I also think that they would not know anything or hear anything when they are on there way to some-where like to find their prey.

Technology.

Hard Materials Technology is a opportunity to try out different things that they do for Technology.  Technology is at Tamaki College just down the road from my school Pt-England School. We class 5,4,3,2,1 get slitted up into 3 different groups and the groups names are Hard Materials , Food Tec , Graffiti. Class 3 , 5 ,& 1 goes on Tuesday and class 4 , 2 go on Thursday . The group that I am in is Hard Materials the thing that we do at Hard Materials is to design a picture that you would like to do as a necklace and the picture that I have drew was a cross because my whole family and I are Christian and we go to church every Sundays. Mr Grundy our Hard Materials teacher sad if you really want to  draw a person then you can do a silhouette human face. In my group there are many people doing a cross ,Heart , and also a horse face , This week we will be changing groups and swapping with the other group with a mix up  when we change groups I hope that I will be in the Food Tec because I really want to know how to cook other things like Steak pizza , Bacon and egg pie and many things that I don't know how to make . For graphics I hope that I will go there last because most of my friends that are in that group say that it is boring that you need to write your own name and design your favourite picture and sometimes I really think that is would not be boring because it is designing things.

Singing All My Life.

2 years before I have dreamed and dreamed to be a singer when I grow up.  My parents think that I will never become a singer , they think that I will grow up as a doctor but I trusted my inner thoughts and proved to them that I can sing by singing to them and pretending that I am at the X Factor. Singing loud with my eyes closed and pretending that I was the real person singing in front of Demi Lovato , and also Jason Derulo it felt like it was real life. While I was singing that song that I was singing had almost ended and I opened my eyes and I was just standing in front of my parents. On the next day I was thinking what can I do to show everyone that I can sing and I have decided to just write my own songs and blog them on my own blog that no one knows how to get on and then when people visit they think that I am a genus at singing , So I have carried on writing my songs until I was aged 10 to 12 and right  now my piles of songs are hidden in a place that no one will find but my-self . Right now I have 50 pieces  of papers filled with songs and raps . When my birthday comes up next week the 28th of May I will be recording them and publishing them on my blog and every time I go on my blog there will be more then a thousand more comebacks/comments .

Reading activity : Pig Hunt .

Pig Hunt by Ian Trafford

WALT: Identify the scientific elements involved in the text.

Where is Glenn taking his son? Glenn is taking his son to the pig hunting with the rest of his whanau .

How do you think the young boy would be feeling about this excursion? (find evidence from the text) ? Glenn son is excited because when the son let the dogs loose Tahi , Chuck , and Rocky the dogs made the son even more excited .

What do they put on Tahi? Tremaine puts the tracker collar on Tahi because the tracker collar sends out the radio signal , But if they lose the dogs in the bush , they can track them down and find them .

For what reason do you think they put the tracker on Tahi? So if the dogs run away and hunt for pigs and they get lost that they do not know where they are the humans can track the dog down and get him .

What part do the radio and aerial have in the Pig Hunting process? We can track them with the radio and the aerial that  Tremaine carries in his red bag .

Find the word ‘plough’ in the text, what does it mean? Put the word ‘plough; into a sentence of your own. ? Plough means that when other pigs look for food with their eyes and they can use their noses to track down food without using an aerial or an radio .

How did they know pigs had been around?  Because well the dogs were looking for food they plough and sniffed on the ground and dug up the mud looking for food underground.

Explanation Template .

Explanation Template :

For inquiry this term my class and I are studying “sound”. This explanation will explain sound. Sound comes from vibrations that moves back and forth and travels around the world to other peoples ears. When it travels it moves further to your ears and your brain says “Hey I recognize that sound” for example when you hit a drumstick on a drum  it moves back and forth  and  that movement is caused sound waves.

The process of hearing sound begins from our ears and the sound vibrates into sound waves.  Sound  vibrations travel around to other peoples ears and the vibrations travel back and forth and then it approaches your ears and travels to your brain. We have different types of sound because of how close the particles are . The thing that causes high pitch and low pitch about sound that we love to hear such as birds chirping up in the tree. These chirps are high pitch because the further the sound wave the higher the pitch and the closer the sound wave the lower the pitch.
Frequency is the rate to per second at which a vibration moves into a movement called sound waves. Sound waves is like when you are in a cave you begin to shout and hear an Echo.  How do we hear echo? we hear echo because when It bounces of the wall it begins comes back to you .

If the world did not have any sound at all  then you can not even hear a single ring on your phone.  If there was no sound , how would the world communicate?. The world can communicate by doing exactly what deaf people do just like side language.

Talking Cups Experiment.

Name: Quziyah & Mua:)

Title of experiment: Talking Cups Experiment.

Question: (What do we want to find out?)
We want to find out if we could hear each other from far just by using cups, a small string, a small rope and a thicker string. When the string is pulled tight it will work better and then you can then hear each other clearly .

Hypothesis: (What do you think will happen?) We think that we will be able to hear better with the plastic string because when we first used the thin string, we couldn’t hear each other clearly. Since we couldn’t hear our voices properly, we think that the thicker the string gets, the better you can hear the other persons voice.

Procedure: (How will we find out? Step by step)
First we were given three strings, two pins and also two cups , And the Ice blocks stick . After collecting all of the equipment we needed to poke a small hole at the bottom of each cup that will be big enough to fit a very thin string into it. Next we concentrated to put the string through the hole and tie the string to the ice block stick. Adventually we got it through without a struggle. After that we went outside and tested it out. We couldn’t really hear each others voices by speaking into the cup so we changed the string and attached a thicker string which was a rope. We did the same thing we did to the thinner string and tested it out. This time we could hear each others voices clearer. My partner and I were onto the last string.

Results: (What actually happened?)
After following the instructions, we found out that we could hear better with the wool rope. We think that the reason for this is because the voice goes throw the string and it vibrates to the other cup .

Conclusions: (What did we learn?)

We learned that the vibrations travel through the string into the other side of the cup making the other person able to hear their voice. We also learned that you have to pull the string tight enough because if it’s crooked then the vibration won’t be able to travel.

Alphabet Addition .

Each number in the alphabet equals a number, here is your key.

You need to add the numbers in the words together to find your answer.
A = 1
B = 2
C = 3
D = 4
E = 5
F = 6
G = 7
H = 8
I = 9
J = 10
K = 11
L = 12
M = 13
N = 14
O = 15
P = 16
Q = 17
R = 18
S = 19
T = 20
U = 21
V = 22
W = 23
X = 24
Y = 25
Z = 26

Vibration - 22 + 9 + 2 + 18 + 1 + 20 + I +  15 + 14 = 102
Maths - 30 + 1 + 20 + 8 + 20  = 79
Sound - 20 + 15 + 20 + 14 + 4 = 73
Molecule - 30 + 15 + 12 + 5 + 3 + 20 + 12 + 5 = 102
Experiment - 5 + 20 + 16 + 5 + 18 + 9 + 30 + 5 + 14 + 20 = 142
Pitch - 16 + 9 + 20 + 3 + 8 = 56
Transferred - 20 + 18 + 1 + 14 + 20 + 6 + 5 + 18 + 18 + 5 + 4 = 129
Movement - 30 + 15 + 20 + 5 + 30 + 5 + 14 + 20 = 139

You need to add each number in these words and find out what they equal in numbers.
